Glass is rarely used nowadays in the manufacture of front head lamps and because of this, the synthetic materials used seems to react with dirt and salts resulting in discoloration which in turn reduces the range of the headlamps. Cleaning the headlamps regularly (even if you do not wish to wash the whole vehicle) is essential for longevity.
